so you wanna be a wedding planner.... fall edition

We've got the perfect way for you to find out if wedding planning is truly your dream job. Read on for details on the Cincy Event Planning internship....(aka the opportunity to work with two pretty cool chicks who happen to be pretty damn good at what they do)

What the internship is:
... An invaluable look at the hard work that really goes into an event
... A great opportunity to learn from two award winning (and fun!) planners in Cincy
... Climbing, hanging, folding, arranging, setting up, fixing, running, rearranging anything and everything

What the intership isn't:
... like anything you've seen in the movies (ie. The Wedding Planner)
... Paid
... Permanent (internship will span early spring + summer)
... Full-time (about 10-15 hours per week when we have an event)

Okay so you have the basic details...still interested?
Fab-u-lous...Keep reading
Lindsey + Julie with 3 Spring/Summer 2011 Interns (Geri Cuilla Photography)

We definitely have more to chat about if you are:
... calm in the face of adversity (like a mother-in-law breathing down your neck)
... fun, funny (we like to laugh...a lot)
... a good negotiator
... pumped to do physical labor (in heels or super cute flats)
... comfortable getting dirty (yes, we often find ourselves crawling on the floor)
... willing to learn lots of new skills (sewing anyone?)
... knowledgeable about colors, flowers
... have a good fashion sense (of course we have to look good)
... able to visualize and be creative without being directed
... keep up with the latest trends
... well organized

Sorry, we are not interested if:
... Your Saturdays are highly valuable and your social calendar is full of weekend cookouts and events.

Still reading? Sweet. Still Interested? Even better.

Here's what we want:
A list of 10 random facts that will help us get to know you. Be creative, quirky, silly, whatever, just don't bore us. Personality is key people.

An inspiration board - make it fun, interesting and not something we've seen a thousand times. The only rule? It has to incorporate orange. What can we say? It's our favorite color.

If you grab our attention, we'll be in touch. Send us an email (feel free to include photos, we LOVE photos) with your list to get things started.

Deadline for submission is Monday August 22, 2011.

Here's what we don't want:
Your resume. Your job experience. Unsolicited requests for paid positions. Phone calls.

meet the interns... Ashley Oeder

Ashley's intern application was full of personality.  It showed her loved of horses and all things country.   When we first met her in person, she was warm and genuine.  She has a quiet confidence and an infectious smile. And other than her love for UK, I think we'll get along just fine.  Ashley's first event with us is coming up, so we'll be sure to share her thoughts later this month, until then, you can find out a little more about Ashley.

9. Favorite color? Green
10. Favorite wedding trend?   Photobooth Fun!

Even though I've watched Julie from the beginning and helped her with a few events such as a barmitzah once, my first real event with Cincy Event Planning was the Knot event a few weeks back.  As you Ohioans know, March is a fickle month for weather so it didn't really surprise me when it started snowing, but it wasn't a problem because the other interns, Julie, Lindsey and I transformed the floor into an amazing warm space that allowed a cool flow from the entrance to the buffet, to the Photobooth, to the cake layout, to the bar and dance floor.  I was able to get to know Erin Sefton while we put together about 5,000 nametags... Ok, really like 200, but it was kind of boring.  Erin and I made the most of it and then Therese helped us out with the last minute finishing touches and everything went off smoothly!  After greeting everyone and handing them their nametags, us interns were able to join in the fun and even did the Cupid Shuffle... Oh yeahhh.  It was such a fun night and so exciting to meet tons of new people that we will be working with in the future.  So excited to be a part of the Cincy Event Planning team!

meet the interns.... Therese Paolo

Therese caught our eye in her "top ten" list she submitted.  I found out all of the info I needed to bring her in... she loves her Bengals and attends Ohio University.  And from her answers below is the only intern that answered 4-6 correct!   In all seriousness, it was evident at her interview that Therese was honest, hardworking and with an eagerness to learn and do whatever it takes.  She has done a great job so far, showing initiative and being proactive.  We are lucky to have her on the team.

1. Favorite Song? Can't Fight the Moonlight by LeAnn Rimes
2. Books or Magazines? Favorite? The Notebook
3. Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate
4. Coke or Pepsi? Coke
5. UC or Xavier? UC
6. Skyline or Gold Star? Skyline
7. Describe your personality in 5 words or less. Determined, Caring & Enthusiastic
8. Describe your style in 2 words or less. Comfortable & relaxed
9. Favorite color? Green
10. Favorite wedding trend? Outdoor Venues & Vintage touches

The first event I was involved with was for the Knot Cocktails & Connections party. I mainly worked on the registration tables with the other great interns Emily and Erin, which turned out awesome. I also got the pleasure of greeting guests as they came in, which gave me the opportunity to meet some people in the industry. Everything went smoothly throughout the night and  it was great to see everyone's hard work pay off in the end when everyone was enjoying themselves.

meet the interns.... Erin Sefton

When we interviewed Erin, we knew immediately she was perfect for our team.  She is energetic, driven and has a confidence that is rare for a junior in college.  She has not disappointed us, she's already proven herself an extremely competent and valuable member of the CEP team  We thought you might like to get to know her (and the other interns) a little better, so we gave them a quick ten questions and asked about their first event experience.

1. Favorite Song  - Don’t Stop Believin’
2. Books or Magazines? Favorite? Books – Twilight Series (Team Edward in the books, Team Jacob in the movies)
3. Chocolate or Vanilla? CHOCOLATE!!!!!
4. Coke or Pepsi? Coke
5. UC or Xavier? Miami, Hehe, I’d have to say UC
6. Skyline or Gold Star? Skyline
7. Describe your personality in 5 words or less. Energetic, talkative, adventurous, comforting, happy
8. Describe your style in 2 words or less. Put Together
9. Favorite color?  Pink
10. Favorite wedding trend? Cupcake wedding cakes

My first event with CEP was “Cocktails & Connections” hosted by the Knot.  Leading up to the event, my mom and I shopped for a new dress and accessories, and I told basically everyone I know what I was getting the opportunity to do.  I had never been to an event like this so I was a little anxious about what I had to do and what to expect.  One of the neatest parts of the night was seeing the before space and how it was transformed into an awesomely decorated party room!

I was able to meet many different people in the wedding industry and I sampled the beautiful goodies and delicious food provided.  I remember thinking, “This is the kind of party you see on Sex and the City and have always wanted to go to!”  Not only did I attend and have a fabulous time, but I helped set-up and decorate for the event!  I hope I can continue to learn about event planning and contribute even more.  I can’t wait for the next event so I can once again be wowed by Jules and Lindsey’s creativity and eye for design.  Thanks so much for the opportunity ladies!!

welcome baby caleb | cincinnati wedding planner

Jenni + Michael were perhaps two of the sweetest people we've ever worked with.  Their wedding was last June at Paul Brown Stadium.. They just welcomed a son into the world this week.  Annie Varland (named best baby + children's photographer by Cincinnati Magazine!) was there to capture the event on film.  Check out the amazing photos on her blog.   Congratulations Jenni + Michael, Caleb is lucky to have such wonderful people for parents!

inspiration: opening day | cincinnati wedding planner

If you live in the greater Cincinnati area, you know today is opening day and that Cincinnati is a baseball town.  Good or bad, we love our Reds. So in honor of opening day, I thought I'd share some super cute baseball themed wedding ideas I've come across.

Lucky for CEP, we  had a couple that loved the Reds so much, they had a Reds themed wedding.  Amanda + Mike were married on the field and had the reception at Great American Ballpark.   One of my favorites touches was a custom made jersey with the couple's last name which they used as the "guest book."

While browsing Etsy (so addicting!), I found adorable baseball themed wedding invitations.  Really, how cute are these?

Cufflinks in your favorite team (or find them with just the baseballs) for all of the men.

Cooperstown Cookies has great options for sweet treats- including a plain baseball cookie or a bag of mini bunt cookies for your guests to take home.

Or try baseball cake pops like these cute ones I found on Etsy!

Adding a few unique touches without going overboard can really pull a themed wedding together.  Check out this table by Camargo Rental also in honor of opening day, while it might not be elegant enough for opening day (ie pilsners + popcorn), but it definitely shows a little can go a long way when working with a theme.

meg + kevin = happy anniversary

Hard to believe it has already been a year since we took over the town of Pinehurst, NC for your wedding. And even crazier to think in a few short months you'll be welcoming a little baby girl into the world. I think of your wedding often, and fondly. By far the most dynamic and open minded couple I have ever worked with. Both of you are beautiful inside and out. Happy 1 year anniversary.

Enjoy their weekend of events by watching the amazing trailer by 28:20

style saturday | cincinnati wedding planner

One of my absolute favorite color combos involves a conservative neutral, navy + a gorgeous trendy bright color, orange. This look could work for virtually any wedding event, or make your bridesmaids happy and let them rock this look. I promise they will wear each piece again and again. It won't break the bank either - the entire look is under $250!

inspiration: sweet little one | cincinnati party planner

It's been a long time since I've been able to choose decor for a little girl's birthday. It's been nearly 7 years since my older two have let me have any say in the party theme or decor. And in the last two years it's been nothing but football and baseball for my little man.

So, with our youngest turning one in only 6 weeks, I am so excited to have a perfectly pink girly party. Think fluffy, soft, pinks, creams and all of the yummy treats you can imagine. Put them all together and you have the perfect party for our little miss, she's our "sweet little one."

kristyn + eric = engaged

I was so excited when Kristyn shared her engagement photos (Images by Daniel Michael) with us. What a gorgeous couple, right? I met Kristyn at Michelle + Jeff's wedding in October of 2009. It will be our third wedding with this group of friends (the first one was Ali + Justin's in June of 2009).

Ok... so back to Kristyn and Eric. The wedding is set for Memorial Day weekend at the Bell Event Centre (love this venue!) They are both Michigan alumni (which totally rocks - we are UofM fans in our house) and have the most adorable dog, Helio (see him in the engagement pics below). The engagement story is quite cute, so I thought I'd include it here too - told from Kristyn's point of view

We had date night scheduled on Friday, August 28, 2009, which is completely normal for us since we like to do that once or twice a week. I was upstairs when Eric came up and gave me a puppy treat to give to Helio and said the puppy has learned a new trick. I went downstairs with him and he put Helio in my arms, I gave him the treat and turned him around and saw the ring on his collar. I was completely surprised! Then, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course I said yes, through some tears. I jumped around our condo for a little while then Eric hurried us off to dinner at Prima Vista (very special restaurant to the two of us) for an intimate dinner and we could call our parents from there. Ha – not the case. We walk in and go to our table…and there’s my parents, Eric’s mom and brother, and some close friends that were able to make the trip to Cincinnati! We had a fabulous dinner and then went out in downtown Cincinnati with everyone from dinner and Eric’s friends. He topped it off by getting us a suite at the Cincinnatian hotel downtown.

Enjoy these amazing engagement pics. Looking forward to this May wedding with Brideface, Images by Daniel Michael, The Bell Event Centre, and Hey Mr. DJ.
